How easy it is to love the lovable
How easy to care, for the meek and humble
So easy to give of yourself, to those who hurt
Easy to forgive the sorry
 
How easy to wish well
To the deserving
How easy to pray
For the real and honest
 
How easy to be a friend
To the one who treats you right
How easy to give a hand
To the one who is reaching out
 
How easy to feel love
For the gentle and caring
How easy to feel pain
For the broken and repentant 
 
But to give to the hard
To love the arrogant
To forgive the self-righteous
To wish well, to the bitter
 
To give of yourself
Over and over
On undeserving hearts
On bitter, rude or abusive
 
Yet even the smallest offence
Can come from the least unexpected
 
Such a hurt to let go of
Though they don't even know
Or they just seem to carry on
Like no harm was done
 
So, in like “forgiveness sets you free”
I wonder
Does it maybe release them too
From a debt they could never pay
 
To let God, heal your hurt
And shower them with Grace
Oh, the ease of forgetting
The debt due by me, released
How quick I can forget
 
How it hurts to always just let go
But yet Lord, how inner pleasing
To feel like my actions
Can point to Your glory
 
Through honest heart
That others can see I love true
Yes, not perfect
Yet, perfect in you
 
Lord, do we ever reach a point of being okay
Like a place of rest
So hard to keep growing and changing
Yet mysteriously freeing, and makes me content.
